I've been going to La Magie to get my hair cut and colored by Claire for the past 3+ years. Claire is very professional and I love her style and honesty. Every time I come to get my hair done, she always provides me a honest opinion about what would be best for my hair type, maintenance and look. She doesn't take offense if you disagree with her or want a specific cut. I think that's where professionalism is really important because at the end of the day, both sides want to be happy and build a relationship of trust.

The service here is amazing. Claire and her team always offer snacks, water and even mimosa to add to your relaxation. The hot towel after a wash is a bliss. Booking an appointment is easy because you can book on their website and choose the service you want.

Why I chose this salon:
I looked at dozens of salons and their yelp pages as well as their website. This was the only higher end salon I found that I felt wasn't focusing on being trendy or hip. Some of the other salons were too overwhelming for me because I'm someone who likes a calm and professional environment. I don't want to feel intimidated before I even get to the salon, lol. Idk if that makes sense, but this salon promoted the most professional business model. Trust me, I'm kinda OCD so I did my RESEARCH.

Booking:
The way the website is set up makes it super easy to book an appointment. So streamlined.

The atmosphere/experience:
if it's a busier time of the day, they will have an assistant shampoo you and give you a lovely head message. They offer loads of beverages and snacks. Super nice staff and just really aware of their clients' needs. I saw a woman come in for coloring, and she was working on her laptop, and a staff member brought her a pillow so she could prop her laptop up. Little touches like that. It's very clear that the owner cares about acute thoughtful touches.

The haircut/stylist:
I can not express into words how grateful I am that I booked with Grace. Idk where to start! She is an extremely intelligent stylist and has applied critical thought to each cut I've received. From listening to your needs and giving you feedback on what cut may work for you and why. From the moment I sat down and had a few minutes with her, I knew I was in good hands. I also love that she is kind but does not try to force a conversation. She is 100% focused on what she is doing. She is fast, too. Each time I've gone, I was out in about 40 minutes and never in the slightest felt rushed. I am very grateful that I found a stylist that I feel safe getting any cut from. It made it easy to feel confident getting a short bob!

I went in recently for the first time and got the deep conditioning treatment done. Meilan did my hair and I wasn't sure how it was going to turn out, but I loved my hair at the end. My hair felt super soft and it had not been this soft in a very long time. The whole experience was very relaxing as well. Will come again to get the same treatment done.

Unfortunately after sitting with this haircut for a couple hours I am quite disappointed. There was poor communication as the haircut was underway and Meilan ended up going a different a route than my original vision and ultimately asked for help from a coworker which felt unprofessional. Everyone was extremely warm and friendly, I am just disappointed in what I was left with when I felt I was clear about what I wanted especially considering the sizable price of the haircut and color. The hair color I am happy with, to be clear, it is the cut that went awry.

I've come to Claire twice now for both a spiral perm and a digital perm and have been very happy with both. Claire is a true expert and knows her craft in and out. She is very detailed oriented and tries to accomplish your vision for your hair. Very pleased with my digital perm and will most likely be getting these done in the future.

Let me start off by saying the salon is extremely nice and clean and they are nice. I messaged Claire asking if she can do a “reverse balayage” she had posted on her own IG. I even sent them a picture of my current hair which was exactly like the picture she had posted. She quoted $500-$600 I said ok that’s cool with me booked it. Went in and she said what did I want I said ? Reverse balayage like I had stated. She said it was easier to just redo global bleach. I was bummed out and didn’t want to do it but his is where I messed up and should have just walked out but I’m extremely shy. They probably would have charged me half of the quote price. I’ll skip to the end because when they washed the toner off my roots were a bright lavender purple color and it looked uneven from old bleach and new one. They also sort of burned my scalp at the front where my widows peak is. I was extremely disappointed in how it came out and me spending $500 on something I didn’t even want and was disappointed in after. This also did not come with a hair cut ? since they did not want to return at least half of my payment I will be moving forward with a complaint to the BBB.

I have been going to Claire for almost 15 years now and have followed her from Kim Sun Young in Koreatown to her locations in Pasadena. Since I live on the Westside, I've tried other stylists out of convenience, but have regretted it every time.

I usually only get hair cuts with Claire, but have also gotten my hair permed with her. She is always honest, and will tell you what would work or not for your hair, face shape, etc. She's even convinced me not to do something that would make her more money. I trust only her with my hair!

Love the stylist Kaki he really has a gentle hand when it comes to hair washing, I was greeted by all the staff and offered snacks and drinks. It was an amazing experience and I was there for a Japanese straight perm. over all a really great place I can’t wait for my next hair appointment.
